Climbing Tools: Snow Anchors / Snow Picket Video

This is a common anchor tool in late summer or west coast snow-packs. The snow has to be pretty bomber to use as a picket. Cascade climbers use this thing a lot. In the Rockies the snow does not usually get strong enough till late summer. It is just another tool!

would? these be best for climbing mt hood in june or july? Would I need ice screws to get up and down the chutes or pearly gates, or can I get by with just a picket?

Nobody is saying that it is just that they have a limited application in this interior snowpack. Coastal snow like they? get in washington is a diffrent matter.

he most certianly is not? saying that. it is just that in the canadian rockies there are only about 4 weeks out of the 52 that they are practica. sometimes not even that. forgive the guy he doesn't get out much. on the west coast and places like new zealand it is a whole diffrent story. i know the rainer guides don't know anything else.
